The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) has given sports betting firm SportPesa a greenlight to re-apply for a license to enable it to resume operations.
On Thursday, acting BCLB Director Peter Mbugi said that the betting firm will be allowed to resume operations once it has proven that it is ready to comply with the regulations of the government.
He said that the Board will carefully scrutinize the application before giving the firm a license.
“Sportpesa should apply afresh for a licence,” said Mr Mbugi, as quoted by the Daily Nation.
“We will scrutinise the firm’s licence application after its made and make a decision on this just like we have done for many others,” he added.
Mbugi also said that the Board is in discussions with other betting firms in the country to determine whether they are ready to comply with regulations of the sector before they can be allowed to operate.
The betting firm has suffered losses after the government announced the crackdown on all betting firms in the country.
SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri has, however, asked their customers to be patient as they address the issues facing them before they can resume operations.
The government has remained firm on taxation of all betting firms.
